About the event
Join us to celebrate Norway's biggest day 17th May! We begin with coffee, cake and drinks from 11am, and then watch the parade through the centre at 1pm. We will then join back together at 3pm to enjoy lunch.
For lunch please bring a main dish with you to share. This can be from your home country, (If you don't feel like cooking you can always buy some food to bring along). Desserts are also welcome in addition to a main dish.
Remember that Norwegians traditionally dress very nicely on 17th May, wearing either traditional costume or a nice suit on this day. While it isn't essential that you dress up, it is a nice way to show respect for the day. Even a nice button shirt is enough . Or if you have a traditional dress from your own country this is a perfect time to wear it. Many Norwegians also carry flags and wear flag-ribbons.
If you have friends who would like to join, please feel free to bring them along. Just let us know so that we can plan for numbers. Families and children are very welcome as well, and we will have a separate children's room.
Some things to remember:
-The venue is Sommerveita 4 (next to Stiftsgårdsparken). Use the same entrance as the 'Midtbyen Helsestasjon'. Then go to Level 4 (Use the elevator. The stairs set off an alarm). If you get lost call Ellen 😀
-There will be a light morning tea from 11am-1pm, with tea, coffee and cakes before going to watch the parade
-An informal lunch will be 3pm-5pm, bring along a main dish to share with everyone.
-Most shops (including supermarkets and vinmonopolet) will be closed Friday so be prepared.
-There will be soft drinks, tea and coffee provided, but alcohol will not be provided
-Be aware that Norwegians like dressing nicely 17th May!
More details are to come, and we look forward to celebrating with you on 17th May!
