Norwegian Language Course
with SINTEF and Onboard Norway
To interact informally and professionally with colleagues in Norwegian. To generally follow internal meetings conducted in Norwegian. Develop a strong understanding of grammar and structure, while expanding vocabulary.
For those who have had Norwegian education previously and who are proficient in basic grammar and some everyday conversation.
Participant will build upon their Norwegian knowledge in order to understand more complex grammar and expand their vocabulary, including some industry/workplace relevant terminology. Focus will be given to developing confidence in conversational Norwegian, about everyday topics and non-routine topics. The aim is to develop confidence to converse professionally with colleagues, and to be able to generally follow along with internal meetings held in Norwegian.
This level will use material from Norwegian on the Web 2, courtesy of NTNU. This book will be provided for each participant at the first session. Along with text-book learning there will be some use of newspaper and magazine articles related to the field in order to learn and improve vocabulary. This will be equivalent to B1/B2 level in the Central European Framework for Language (CEFR).
Participants will have good knowledge of grammatical rules, word order and pronunciation. Demonstrate a vocabulary that enables them to give clear descriptions and express their meaning about most everyday issues, as well as give brief explanations for opinions and plans, and understand some industry/workplace specific terminology.
2 hours of face to face class time per week. There is no testing or examination for this course, but there will be assigned homework tasks. Participants are expected to complete 3-4 hours of self-study each week.
Textbook & Workbook
Norwegian on the Web 2 (Helgå, Heidi Borghild, Husby, Olaf, Hveding, Lena 2018). This will be provided to each student by Onboard Norway. There is no need to purchase either text or work book.
Norwegian on the Web 2 (https://www.ntnu.edu/now2). This course will use online learning modules and components from this above site throughout the duration of the course.
Additional learning material
This will include some use of newspaper and magazine articles; this will be provided by instructors throughout the course.
One 2-hour class time each week (including 15-minute break). Classes will be limited to 5-8 participants. This course is being provided to you by your employer with the expectation that you will attend each class. If you are not able to attend a class, it must be arranged with your instructor beforehand. If classes are missed without notification, your instructor will follow up with you and, if needs be, with your supervisor.
